Pool Area Conversion

In 2000 Cheng Design remodeled and expanded this 1973 Jon Condoret original. As part of the expansion, an indoor pool area and adjacent home office were created. The enjoyment of the pool area has grown to be a burden with continuous maintenance issues, excessive humidity challenges and the like. The owners sought to leverage the existing structure to establish, instead, an activity area for entertaining and a related guest suite. To bring the space into aesthetic alignment with the original 1973 home's unique character, the aluminum framing system is supplemented with wood beams and the polycarbonate roofing is replaced with insulated wood decking. Leaky angled window systems are replaced with vertical glazing and carefully design overhangs to provide shelter and shading along the south-facing glazed wall. Otherwise, floor and wall finishes match with the original home to bring a cohesiveness to the whole.
