Colonial Addition

Project type

Remodel and Addition

Date

2011 - 2013

Location

Durham, NC

Originally constructed in 1945, an upper level master suite addition on the opposite end of the home from the other bedrooms, along with a partial interior remodel had previously been completed for this Colonial style home in the 1990’s. The new owners found the quality and character of the home, along with its wonderful location to be ideal. However, the internal layout of the home proved a challenge for their day-to-day enjoyment of the spaces. The solution was to convert the remote, previously added master suite into a guest suite and exercise space, while adding a new master suite proximate to the other bedroom areas of the home. Along with this, a gallery-style office area for the parents bridges between the two upper level additions to provide connection between the previous and new additions, as well as desired functional space. Finally, a large screened porch for daily outdoor living, cooking and dining has been introduced overlooking the private rear yard and forest views. Remodeled by Krichco Construction.
