Contemporary Farmhouse
Project type
Whole House Remodel (unbuilt)
Date
2009
Location
Carrboro, NC
As a part of enhancing the livability of their home the owners of this large acreage property sought to draw out of the house a modern farmhouse design, with a regional vernacular. Anticipated to be constructed in phases, the images here incorporate the entire master plan, which includes significant outdoor living spaces. Shingles will be replaced with metal roofing, the siding will be stained a lighter tone, a stone veneer will be added over exposed stucco foundation walls, and the edges of the roof will be enhanced with new, broad overhangs. This view of the east side of the home shows how the rather awkward and unnecessary stair from the upper level will be removed and a new roof form established to integrate a former home office addition into the overall form of the home. Above will be a roof deck and below is a new screened porch off the master bedroom, both of which look out to a long view across a field.
