Steep Site Modern

The client for this modern home design purchased a dilapidated home in an established family-friendly neighborhood a few miles from the city center with an eye toward replacing it in an ecologically sensitive manner. What little remained intact was salvaged, the rest demolished and overgrown trees on the site milled for lumber and siding to be used on the project. As planning has progressed other area tree removal has provided further materials. Integrating the form of the home into the steeply sloping site, while still providing a play space and connection to the street, was resolved through the creation of a reinforced turf arrival court. Guest parking, a place to run and play ball, host neighborhood parties and the like are all facilitated in this important area. 5 bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms, a great room, pantry, study, family entry with cubbies, laundry room, recreation room and exercise area round out the design.
