Whole House Remodel and Addition
Date
2012 - 2018
Location
Chapel Hill, NC
Completed in several phases, the remodel and expansion of this Mid-century Modern home has transformed it from middling to full indoor/outdoor living and crafted views. The home's location on a promontory, high above the street, results in privacy for the entry side but posed an accessibility issue for daily walks around the neighborhood. A stair connecting a street-side guest parking area affords a safer means of traversing the hillside and a rather dramatic approach for guests.
The exterior lines of the home were accentuated to provide a refined character to the main entrance, which gives way to the Dining Area. Walls were removed to provide flow around the central fireplace and link, Dining, Living and Kitchen together. The west wing of the home was extended toward the south to provide a new Primary Bedroom Suite and a guest room, access via a glass-walled bridge. In a subsequent phase, the outdoor living areas were developed, including a swimming pool, decks, a fire pit and a fire table. Lastly, an initial screened porch overlooking the pool had become a dominant space for taking meals, watching television and the like. It was enclosed as a highly glazed room to provide multi-season functionality while maintaining its porch-like character. Remodeled by Krichco Construction.
