Light From Above
Project type
Whole Home Remodel
Date
2011 - 2013
Location
Chapel Hill, NC
The owners had been living in this prized mid-Century neighborhood for some time. However, they were at the "back" of the neighborhood relative to a local shopping and restaurant district at the "front" of the neighborhood. When this home near the front came on the market they found it had "good bones" as we say. So, they purchased it with an eye to a full remodel to bring it up to today's standards while refining its layout to fit their lifestyle.
The broad front of the house faces south but initially was blocked by a drive through carport. The carport is removed, replaced by a garage with covered route to a new Daily Entry. The extent of vaulted ceilings have been enlarged and a long "light monitor" introduced to bring light in from above into the center of the home. A welcoming entrance and a deck off what would become the Guest Suite completes the street side of the home. The rear of the home has been developed next to the new kitchen to provide outdoor living opportunities with a deck, patio, outdoor kitchen, dining and sitting areas. Remodeled by L.E. Meyers, Builders.
