Date

2013 - 2017

Location

Durham, NC

The client for this contemporary home design desired a highly energy efficient, accessible home with a secondary level for guests. Essential design goals included broad overhangs, low pitched roofs. plenty of glazing affording views and balanced daylight, offset building volumes and roof lines and the creation of courtyard spaces. Situated on a large acreage site in the county, the home is approached from the neighborhood road via a gently curving, gently descending gravel drive that arrives at a guest parking area adjacent to the main entry. The garage is immediately adjacent, but hidden by a projecting building form. The public spaces of the home are contained within a single sloped ceiling volume with a south-facing clerestory and views into two courtyard spaces created by a bridge corridor and screened porch which join it to a second main volume containing the Primary Bedroom Suite and a Guest Suite. The bridge corridor and screened porch create a covered patio for enjoyment by the lower level bedrooms and related living area. Built By Krichco Construction.
