Oak and Light

The purchasers of this home in a historic neighborhood were taken not only by it's one-level living but also by the Japanese style home design of its aesthetic. As they lived in the home for a while, it became clear the enclosed Kitchen space was the one area that didn't really work, trapped away from daylight and with no connection to the surrounding public spaces. The solution was to remove the bounding walls of the Kitchen and to create a new "nexus" to which all the public spaces of the home connect and interact. The new Kitchen design leverages a high level of fit and finish with custom cabinetry that elevates the character of the entire home. Constructed by The Maplewood Building Company.
