Sun Forest Renewed

Project type

House Remodel

Date

2013 - 2014

Location

Chapel Hill, NC

Each home, even a custom home design has something it "wants to be" that tends to differ with each change in ownership. This home, designed and built with Keith Brown during the decade we spent designing and building homes with our company called Sun Forest, changed hands after the original clients sold it to move on to their next stage in life. The new owners particularly enjoyed the openness, volumetric interconnections of space, use of cedar ceilings and cedar-trimmed window wall systems. During the design process they sought to enhance the original architectural concept of an open main volume with cathedral ceiling open to broad views on each end. With a lifestyle suited to more openness between the main living spaces - Kitchen, living and dining, the opportunity arose to maximize the connectedness of those functions within open cathedral ceiling space. The results, seen in these images, honor the original design concept and also make the house home for the new owners. Construction by New South Building Company.
